Why Mulberry Silk?

Why Mulberry Silk?

When developing our mask, we chose 23 momme mulberry silk for a reason grounded in both science and skin health.

Mulberry silk is produced by Bombyx mori silkworms fed exclusively on mulberry leaves. This controlled diet results in long, uniform fibres that are smoother and stronger than other silks. The smoothness of these fibres has been shown to reduce friction against the skin, which can help minimise skin creasing and pressure lines overnight.

Multiple dermatological studies highlight the benefits of silk for sensitive or acne-prone skin. A 2020 clinical study published in Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology found that participants using silk pillowcases had reduced acne severity compared to those using cotton. The same principle applies to sleep masks - less friction, fewer irritants, and lower absorbency help preserve skin hydration and reduce the risk of irritation.

Silk is also naturally hypoallergenic and resistant to dust, mould, and certain allergens, making it suitable for individuals with sensitive skin or respiratory concerns.

We specifically use 23 momme silk for its density and durability. It contains more silk per square inch than lower momme fabrics, meaning it’s thicker, softer, and longer-lasting without compromising breathability.

By choosing mulberry silk, we’re choosing a material that’s scientifically supported, skin-friendly, and genuinely designed to support healthy sleep.
